Our Story
Ever since their school days in Cambridge, the history and heritage of New England has been close to our founders' hearts. Walking among the brownstone buildings and the historic streets of Massachusetts, they fell in love with the buildings and furniture — with the heirlooms passed down from generation to generation.
When they moved to Los Angeles, they soon found an appreciation for the spontaneous, whimsical and contemporary but longed for the rich history of early American traditions.
They found friends who shared their loves and desires — growing families who were looking to balance their past with their new and changing future. People who wanted to hold on to history but also embark on new journeys.
With these thoughts in their hearts, they set out to seamlessly intertwine history, heirlooms and vintage craft with contemporary lifestyles.
Bringing these two loves together is the goal of Franklin & Ben. A brand that references history by revitalizing traditional craft with contemporary twists.
We've taken inspiration from the classic American Hunt Club Lounge, the Shaker furniture of New England, and the architecture of Massachusetts to create a new line of children's furniture, but we didn't want to simply imitate it; we wanted to reinterpret it. Thus, Heritage Reinterpreted.
In Franklin & Ben, you'll see a little bit of the familiar mixed with a little bit of the new. Or, if you will, reminders of history mixed with contemporary flair.

An Interview withJennifer DeLonge
Take a look at her thought-process as she worked with us to design two of the most exciting cribs on the market.
We got together with our favorite designer, Jennifer DeLonge, to pick her brain about what makes her tick and what inspires her designs. She is the creative genius behind two of our collections, Mason and Copley, and we wanted to find out what inspired her to design these fresh and unique pieces.
What are you most inspired by?
Objects that inspire me everyday always include vintage finds of textiles, furniture and jewelry. Looking to the past and finding ways to update and modernize my favorite patterns, shapes and functionality keeps me passionate about design. Traveling the world and photographing everything from over-scaled churches down to details of a door handle, allow me to catalog away inspiration. There is a never a shortage of ideas to explore!
What was your inspiration for your two Franklin & Ben collections (Mason and Copley)?
The Mason was inspired by the imagery of antique library walls, housed on a cobblestone street, where the paneling has the perfect amount of patina after years of use. The vintage look of the French grey finish gives it just the right amount of age and when paired with modern accessories can create excitement in any nursery.
The Copley inspiration comes from the quintessential New England space… think Americana mixed with aged leather wing back chairs. Transforming this image into a nursery setting is the ideal design element to recreate when thinking about the baby's nursery; it exudes warmth and luxury.
What is it about Franklin & Ben that you feel appeals to the customer?
It's the perfect mix between old and new. As a new parent, finding pieces to complement your own home for a nursery can be daunting. With Franklin & Ben you can easily see yourself spending time in the nursery because the collections are so stylish, versatile and very of-the-moment, whatever your design influences may be.
How would you describe the collections you designed?
The Mason and the Copley are the perfect combination of a bit of history in a modern world. Mixing any of these iconic pieces with a modern glider or vintage art projects gives the idea of a well-loved updated nursery with a sense of memory.

Designing for Franklin & Ben makes me smile! Being able to create collections that can integrate beautifully into any family space with a sense of style is exactly what Jennifer DeLonge is all about… and continuing this idea into the nursery with pieces that are beautiful and incredibly priced, is so very exciting. The hard part is deciding which one to pick!

When our team set out to design the Franklin & Ben collections, we envisioned something beyond pieces of furniture; we envisioned heirlooms. Built by hand in our Los Angeles, California workshop, Franklin & Ben dressers boast the sort of details that would make our great-grandmothers glow with approval. Each spacious drawer features sturdy dovetail joints as well as metal tracks with built-in stops, a necessary detail for baby safety. Underneath, our drawers are further reinforced with triangular supports, rendering them more than ready to withstand the tests of time. In conjunction with their classic design, the Franklin & Ben furniture is sure to be enjoyed by generations to come. What more could a modern parent ask for?
