Here at the MDB family, children are our priority. But many children around the world are sadly less fortunate. Some precious babies might never have had a proper place to sleep, much less a safe and stylish nursery. That's why MDB has been committed to giving back -- back to the children and back to the community at large.
These Causes have been close to our hearts for years:
MDB supports Union Rescue Mission in its effort to embrace the urban poor. After all, URM is the only 24/7 emergency shelter in Central L.A. Since we knew they could use the help, in 2010 we donated $35,000 in MDB beds, cribs, changers, and dressers to furnish and decorate a few spaces at the Mission. We hope that in using this furniture, the women and children at URM will feel like they are part of the MDB family while they work to lead better, more prosperous lives.
It's a beautiful thing to see a child achieve a lifelong dream. That's why we support the Special Olympics of Southern California. For years, we've marveled at how hard work, persistence, and determination can yield extraordinary achievement. And since we want more children to experience that kind of success, we have donated $7,500 to the Special Olympics every year since 2006. This is a dream worth dreaming and a cause worth supporting.
Baby2Baby supplies Los Angeles families in need with essential baby gear and clothing for their children 0-4 years old. They distribute new and gently used items through a network of community based organizations. In July 2011, MDB donated over $5,000 worth of bedding and toys to this outstanding organization.
Royal Family Kids' Camps is the leading network of camps for abused, neglected, and abandoned children. In one-week camp experiences, these children can create the positive childhood memories they so desperately need. At MDB, we've supported Royal Family Kids' Camps by donating $2,000 to a Southern California camp each summer. Over the last 15 years, that's $30,000. But when it comes to precious memories, that's priceless.
Journey House is dedicated to helping emancipated foster youth over eighteen years of age to meet their initial independent living needs, to access adequate and appropriate housing, education, and employment, and to build their self-esteem through personalized attention and positive outreach services. MDB realizes the importance of ensuring that foster youth succeed in their adult lives and that they grow into healthy, happy and independent individuals. We are helping to provide Journey House with the resources they need to accomplish these goals.
Bethel is a not-for-profit organization that provides foster care, education and professional training for Chinese orphans who are blind or visually impaired. MDB shares Bethel's passion and conviction that all children should have equal opportunities to thrive. That is why we have provided them with special Braille computers and printers, MP3 players, new washing machines, an industrial sterilizer and diapers. We look forward to a continued relationship with Bethel and to the prosperity of their students.
